Restoring Health and Dignity: Over 700 Seniors treated at Our 5th Medical Camp.

On 26th July 2025, Mama Ibado Charity (MIC) brought together doctors, volunteers, and community partners at Al-Falah Medical Centre, Isiolo, for the 5th Seniors’ Medical Camp. The one-day outreach provided free healthcare services to 701 patients. This included 236 MIC beneficiaries, 421 senior community members, and 44 bedridden seniors who were attended to through home visits.

The camp attended to a wide range of health concerns. Arthritis, hypertension, and gastritis emerged as the most common conditions, while diabetes, respiratory infections, eye complications, and skin diseases were also widely reported. These cases painted a clear picture of the growing burden of chronic and lifestyle-related illnesses among the elderly in Isiolo county.

One of the most moving moments of the day was a life-saving surgical intervention led by Dr. Mohamednur Mohammed, together with other medical staff. They successfully removed a cheek tumour from a blind senior, relieving him of a painful condition that had long weighed on his life. This single act of compassion and skill reflected the transformative power of the camp, restoring not only health but also dignity.

Yet, even as the camp delivered hope and healing to many seniors, it revealed critical gaps. Seniors living with conditions such as Parkinson’s disease and Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy (BPH) highlighted the need for greater access to neurological and urological care. Many also required specialized dental and optical services that could not be fully addressed during the one-day camp.

This milestone was only possible through the dedication of a remarkable team of volunteer doctors, nurses, pharmacists, lab technicians, psychologists, MIC staff, and other volunteers, who gave their time, skills, and compassion. To our partners and sponsors, we extend heartfelt appreciation for making this impact possible.

As Mama Ibado Charity moves ahead, our focus is clear: to build a future where seniors are not defined by their vulnerabilities but celebrated for their resilience. By working hand in hand with our partners, volunteers, and community, we will continue to expand access to quality care and safeguard the dignity of every senior.
