Abdullahi Amina Susi

Abdullahi Amina Susi was born in 1941 in Bunyore, Luanda, located in Vihiga County. After schooling up to Class Four, she moved to Kakamega to live with her aunt. It was there she met her husband, Abdallah Okwaro. Together, they had six children. Sadly, three of them passed away. Of the remaining three, one is married, and the other two are in Migori, still struggling to find stable work.

Life has never been easy for Amina. Without a regular income, she turned to selling groceries to survive. But the profits were small and could barely feed the family. “I spent everything on food,” she says. Eventually, the business failed, and she was left with nothing.

On top of financial hardship, Amina also deals with health issues. She suffers from high blood pressure and severe dental pain, but getting medical help was too expensive. “I can’t afford treatment,” she says. “The cost of drugs and transport is too high.”

Her situation began to improve after she joined the Mama Ibado Charity Seniors Feeding Program in Amalemba. From the food support she now receives—flour, cooking oil, rice, salt, Amina says she can finally breathe. 

“My life has improved a great deal,” she says. “I can now afford food and focus on other things to improve my life.”

Through the program, Amina also found out she could access free treatment at Mama Ibado's clinic. 

“I’m now happy that I can get assistance from the clinic. Apart from food, I’m able to get good medical attention.”

Amina’s story is one of many, an example of how a helping hand can bring back hope, dignity, and health to those who’ve been forgotten.
