Under the quiet shade of a tree in Bulapesa, Adeyi Farah Mohammed reflects on the life she has spent years building with little more than determination and hard work. For many years, this was more than just a place to rest. It was her small, informal shop, where she sold charcoal and potatoes to earn enough to feed and support her family. Adeyi’s life was marked by hardship from an early age. Orphaned as a child and growing up without knowing her parents, she learned to depend on herself from a young age. Her early years were spent doing household chores and domestic work, with few opportunities to change her circumstances.

Marriage brought hopes of a more stable future, but those hopes were short-lived. After the sudden death of her husband, Adeyi found herself raising five children on her own. With no reliable source of income to depend on, she turned to small-scale trading, sitting beneath the tree in Bulapesa each day and selling whatever she could to put food on the table and keep a roof over her family.

Years later, one of her daughters was able to purchase a small piece of land for Adeyi after saving what she could. For Adeyi, the land represented more than property. It was a sense of security she had spent much of her life longing for. But once again, the family was confronted by loss when her daughter’s husband passed away unexpectedly, leaving her daughter widowed and responsible for raising her children alone.

Today, the physical demands of a lifetime of work and financial hardship have taken a toll on Adeyi’s health. She lives with diabetes, declining eyesight, persistent body aches, and severe pain in her legs that makes walking difficult. With limited financial resources, accessing consistent care and managing these long-term health challenges can be a daily struggle.

Through these difficult years, Mama Ibado Charity has provided Adeyi with much-needed support. Through monthly food assistance and access to healthcare, the program has helped ease some of the burdens she carries and given her greater security in meeting her basic needs.

For Adeyi, the support goes beyond food and healthcare. It has reminded her that she is not forgotten. She speaks with gratitude for the assistance she receives and continues to offer prayers for the foundation’s leadership and team. After a lifetime spent caring for others and finding ways to survive through difficult circumstances, the support has given Adeyi something deeply valuable: the reassurance that someone is still there to care for her too.
