Napali Adriano

Adriano Napali, 74, was born in 1951 in Bukhulunya Village, Kakamega county. His early life was marked by hardship; he attended Bukhulunya Primary School only up to Class Six because his family could not afford the fees. He then began working at home, farming and clearing land.
 
In 1970, Adriano married, and together with his wife, they were blessed with six children. Today, two of his sons struggle to make a living in Kakamega town, often taking construction jobs just to support their families. For years, Adriano supported his own family by working as a porter, carrying heavy loads for traders in town.

"When a lorry arrived, I would run to unload the goods, and the Indians would give me food," he recalls.
 
Life took a difficult turn in 2015 when he suffered a stroke that left him paralyzed.

Confined to his home, he faced a severe lack of food. "I had no food to eat... I was sick and just staying outside," he lamented. People who saw him thought he was waiting to die.

A turning point came when village elders, visiting the elderly in the area, took his photo and details to the Mama Ibado Foundation in Amalemba. The foundation has transformed his life. He now regularly receives essential food items like maize flour for ugali, sugar, tea leaves, salt, cooking oil, and milk. The foundation also ensures he receives medical care.

Though he is too weak to travel, health workers visit him at home to provide treatment.  
"My body feels good, and I feel better. Even when I wake up, I wake up well," he says. Knowing he will have food, a stark contrast to his past struggles, gives him peace of mind.  
Adriano offers his deepest gratitude to Mama Ibado. "May God grant her a long life. She has protected me well." He appeals for continued support so his life, saved from the brink, can continue with dignity.
