ASHA BONAYA

Born in Isiolo County, Asha Bonaya has known a life of hardship that would overwhelm many. Disabled and without a source of income, she has faced each day carrying the weight of survival on her own shoulders. Her story is one of courage, determination, and the transformative power of compassion.

Asha was once married and blessed with five children, but tragedy struck when her husband passed away. Left alone, she struggled to care for her children without a job, livestock, or steady support. For years, she depended on the kindness of neighbors and community members, yet even with their help, there were days when she did not know how she would provide the next meal.

Life was a constant battle—hungry mornings, sleepless nights, and the burden of illness. Living with hypertension, Asha faced her health challenges largely alone, unable to consistently access the care she needed. Every day felt uncertain, and the future seemed bleak.

Then, hope arrived. Asha heard about Mama Ibado Charity and went to their offices, sharing her story and her struggles. She was welcomed into the Seniors Feeding Program, and her life began to change.
Through the program, Asha now receives monthly food supplies—rice, sugar, cooking oil, and other essentials—ensuring that she and her children no longer go hungry. “Before Mama Ibado Charity, I would ask for help just to have something to eat,” she recalls. “Now, I have everything I need, and life feels manageable again.”

The charity also transformed her access to healthcare. Every Thursday, Asha visits the weekly clinic to receive her hypertension medication and health check-ups. Today, Asha can breathe a little easier. She can care for her children and focus on her health, living with dignity and hope. But her story also reflects a harsh reality: many seniors in Isiolo continue to struggle in silence, hungry, ill, and alone.
