CHARITY MBAYA AMITEI

Charity Mbaya has called Isiolo home all her life. Born and raised in the region, she later married and built her family there. But as her household grew, meeting the needs of her family became increasingly difficult.

Charity is a mother of four grown children, two daughters and two sons. Although her children went to school, finding stable employment proved difficult. Her sons now rely on casual jobs, often leaving home in search of construction work and other opportunities, without knowing whether they will find work or return home empty-handed. Determined to support her family, Charity previously ran a small business in Isiolo town, selling milk and groundnuts. The business provided an important source of income, but rising rent eventually made it impossible for her to continue. She was forced to close the business and return home without a reliable source of income.

The situation became even more challenging as Charity also had four young grandchildren depending on the household for their basic needs. With limited and unpredictable income, providing regular meals was often a struggle, and the family faced difficult days when resources simply were not enough.

Charity’s circumstances began to change when she approached Mama Ibado Charity for assistance. After her situation was assessed, she was enrolled in the organization’s food support program. Through the monthly food assistance, Charity receives essential food items that help ease the pressure of providing meals for her family. The support has given the household greater stability, particularly during periods when casual work is unavailable and there is little or no income coming into the home.

For Charity, the assistance has provided more than food. It has helped ease the daily uncertainty of how her family will manage and reduced the pressure of trying to provide for several dependents with limited resources. With more consistent access to food, her grandchildren are also better supported as they continue with their education.

Today, Charity remains deeply grateful for the support her family receives. While many challenges remain, the assistance has provided an important safety net, helping her household face difficult times with greater stability, dignity, and hope for the future.
