Esther Mwakiti

At 76 years old, Esther Mwakiti has lived a life marked by hardship, quiet strength, and unwavering care for those around her. Originally from Tigania, Maua in Meru County, she later relocated to Isiolo, where she now lives with her grandchildren.
In her earlier years in Isiolo, life was extremely difficult. With limited resources and no stable support system, she and her children were forced to sleep on the ground. Shelter was minimal, and basic needs were rarely met. As she grew older, her health began to deteriorate. She developed high blood pressure and other chronic conditions that required regular medical care.

When she became unwell, her only option was to visit government hospitals. But with no money to pay for services, she often went untreated. There were times she would wait for up to three days, only to return home without the medication she needed. The lack of consistent healthcare led to further health complications and emotional distress.
In addition to managing her own health, she became the primary caregiver to her grandchildren. Their parents, working tirelessly to provide, had no choice but to leave them in her care. Despite her age and limited means, she took on this responsibility with love — but it came with its own set of challenges.

Her situation began to shift when she became a beneficiary of Mama Ibado Charity. Today, she receives monthly food support — enough to sustain both herself and her grandchildren. This consistent provision has brought stability to her household, ensuring that no one under her care goes to bed hungry. The food support has not only met their physical needs but has also brought peace of mind.

She also receives regular medical care through the Mama Ibado Charity clinic. She is now able to access the medication she needs for her blood pressure and any other health issues that may arise. With this continued support, the health complications she once faced have significantly improved.

Having access to both food and healthcare has transformed her daily life. She is stronger, more hopeful, and able to continue caring for her grandchildren with renewed strength.
At 76, she sees a future that once felt out of reach — one filled with stability, improved health, and dignity. She is deeply grateful for the support that has lifted her out of years of struggle and helped her build a life where she can finally thrive.
