Foster Nyakundi Kanuni

At 83, Foster Nyakundi’s hands still bear the memory of the roads he once built, the long days under the sun, the weight of stone and gravel, and the quiet pride of a job done well. Born in Kisii, he began his working life in road construction in South Nyanza, at a place known as Sori. The work was relentless, the pay heartbreakingly small. Eventually, he walked away, uncertain of what the future might hold.

Life led him to Kakamega, where poverty shadowed his every step. The municipality, seeing his plight, donated a small plot of land. On that patch of earth, Nyakundi built more than just a house, he built a life. Together with his wife, they opened a small business, and their home thrived with the rhythm of work and the dignity of self-reliance.

But time is an unforgiving companion. Age slowed their pace, the business waned, and their income faded. In these years, when many rely on pensions or savings, Nyakundi instead leaned on the kindness of others.

It was then that Mama Ibado Charity extended a helping hand. “Mama Ibado Charity came in at a time of need, they have been my source of survival,” he says. Every month, he receives domestic foodstuffs that bring him security, dignity, and peace of mind.

“I am deeply grateful,” Nyakundi says softly. “I pray for the charity’s continued work, as it has been of great help in my twilight years.”
