Haji Afubwa Aura

Haji Aura Afubwa was born in 1944 in Mumias, starting life as the second-born in a family of six children.

He attended school up to class four before stopping because his family could no longer afford school fees. Leaving school meant stepping directly into daily manual work to help support his parents and siblings.

Working as a mason required heavy lifting and long hours under the sun, yet the wages from these unpredictable odd jobs were rarely enough. There were many nights when he returned home completely exhausted only to find an empty hearth, leaving the family to sleep on an empty stomach.

As an adult, he married and fathered seven children, but providing daily meals became an unrelenting struggle amid crushing poverty. The departure of his wife added another heavy layer of solitude and hardship to his responsibilities.

Years of heavy physical labor eventually broke down his health, leaving him struggling with a persistent chest condition and severe joint pain. Furthermore, a deep leg wound that never healed properly made further masonry work impossible, completely cutting off his only source of income.

Through community connection, a path opened to the Mama Ibado Charity, leading to an official registration where monthly provisions of maize flour, porridge flour, rice, milk, sugar, cooking oil, salt, and tea leaves began arriving at his home.

"Mama Ibado is helping me with food, and now my life has a bit of relief compared to the past when every single day was an uncertain struggle for a basic meal," Haji Aura Afubwa notes regarding the change in his daily survival.

Without ongoing medical support for his chronic chest illness and unhealed leg wound, daily existence remains precarious, making continued assistance essential for his survival.
