Hawo Abdi has lived a life defined by hard work and care for others. From a young age, she began working in construction, mixing cement and helping build structures in her community. This was physically demanding work, but it was necessary to provide for her family. In addition to construction, she cooked tea and chapatti to sell, using the small earnings to feed her children and keep them in school. Life was difficult, and she had no one to rely on for support. Every day required effort, determination, and the hope that she could make it through.
Hawo’s challenges extended beyond her own children. She took in orphaned children, offering them a home and care when they had nowhere else to turn. Her generosity and dedication were remarkable, yet they came with heavy responsibility. Over time, tragedy struck when she lost three of her daughters. The pain of losing them was immense, and life became even harder. Despite this heartbreak, Hawo continued to care for the children they left behind, ensuring they went to school, ate well, and had the support they needed — all on her own, with no one to help her.
During these trying times, Hawo first noticed Mama Ibado Charity. She had seen people being given food whenever she passed by their offices, and it gave her a glimpse of hope that she could receive help too. Motivated by that hope, she decided to explain her situation to the charity. After hearing her story, Mama Ibado Charity welcomed her as a beneficiary. From that point, support began to flow into her life. She received food that she could share with her children, alleviating some of the constant worry about hunger. For the first time in a long while, she felt a sense of relief that basic needs could be met.
The support did not stop at food. Hawo also began receiving medicine from the charity’s clinic every Thursday. This allowed her to take care of her health while continuing to care for her family. The combination of food and healthcare support has brought significant change to her life, providing stability, hope, and a renewed sense of possibility.
Hawo’s daily life is still busy and full of responsibilities. She continues to wake early to prepare meals, see the children off to school, and attend to the younger ones at home. The difference Mama Ibado Charity has made is not just in the material support, but in the ability to breathe a little easier knowing that help is available. She no longer feels completely alone in her struggles, and the children under her care have a brighter path forward.
Reflecting on the difference the charity has made, Hawo says, “I want to say thank you to Mama Ibado Charity for the way they help us.” Their support has transformed her life, ensuring that she and the children she cares for can live with dignity and hope. Hawo’s story illustrates the profound impact of compassionate assistance — showing that even in the face of loss, hardship, and loneliness, care and support can bring light, stability, and a renewed sense of purpose.
