Tucked away in the bustling neighborhood of Amalemba in Kakamega, Ibrahim Nyanga Suleiman starts each day behind a small roadside stall, selling groceries and hot samosas. At 65, this humble business is not just a source of income, it’s a symbol of his determination to keep going, no matter how hard life gets.

Born and raised in Amalemba, Ibrahim has known no other home. His life has been shaped by hardship from the very beginning. The loss of his father in 1973 and his mother in 2000 left lasting emotional scars. Among five siblings, only two survived into adulthood. Despite his efforts, the income from his food stall barely covers basic needs. “I earn very little from the business,” he says, “but it’s the only way I can support my family.” Yet even through these struggles, Ibrahim has not been entirely alone.

For the past five years, Mama Ibado Charity has walked alongside him. The organization regularly provides him with essential food items including flour, sugar, rice, cooking oil, salt, tea leaves, a critical lifeline that helps bridge the gap between his income and his family’s needs. “We’ve managed to get by,” he says with quiet gratitude, “thanks to the food I receive.”

But the support doesn’t stop at food. Every Thursday, Ibrahim attends MIC’s weekly health clinics, where he receives medical attention and medication from the charity’s doctors. “My health has dramatically improved since I started attending the clinics,” he shares.

What stands out most in Ibrahim’s story is not just his resilience, but his deep sense of gratitude. He speaks warmly about the care and consistency he has experienced. Looking beyond himself, Ibrahim expresses a heartfelt wish for MIC to grow and expand their support to other counties the same way they’re helping people in Kakamega.
