ISMAEL ZEINAB DAHIR

Born in Eldoret, Zainab Dahir eventually made her way to Isiolo, where she built a home, married, and raised her five children. Over the years, she became deeply rooted in the community she now calls home, navigating the responsibilities of motherhood and family life with determination and perseverance.

As her children grew older, her two eldest eventually moved away, leaving Zainab to manage more of the responsibilities at home. For many years, she found support through her mother, who was a beneficiary of Mama Ibado Charity and relied on the program’s assistance to help provide for the household. Her mother’s passing left a significant gap in the family, and Zainab stepped in to carry the responsibilities her mother had once helped shoulder.

She was later enrolled as a beneficiary of Mama Ibado Charity, bringing much-needed relief during a challenging period in her life. Through the program’s monthly food assistance, Zainab receives a range of essential food items, including rice, flour, cooking oil, sugar, milk, porridge flour, and other household food essentials. The regular support has helped ease the pressure of providing meals and given her household greater stability.

For Zainab, however, the challenges she faces extend beyond food insecurity. She has lived with asthma for nearly four decades, requiring ongoing medical attention and medication. More recently, her health journey became more complicated when she was diagnosed with hypertension and diabetes, adding further demands to her daily life.

Managing multiple chronic conditions can be difficult, particularly when treatment and medication place additional pressure on limited household resources. Through Mama Ibado Charity’s healthcare support, Zainab is able to access the medication she needs at no cost. This has helped her manage her conditions more consistently and reduced the financial burden that would otherwise fall on her and her family.

The combination of food and healthcare support has given Zainab a greater sense of security. Instead of having to face the uncertainty of whether she will have enough food or be able to afford the medication she needs, she has a reliable source of assistance to fall back on.

Today, Zainab continues to navigate life with the strength that has carried her through decades of change, motherhood, loss, and health challenges. The support she receives has not removed every difficulty, but it has eased some of the burdens and allowed her to face each day with greater dignity and peace of mind.

With gratitude, Zainab continues to give thanks for the assistance she receives and prays for blessings upon those who make the program possible. For her, the support is a reminder that even in difficult seasons, she does not have to carry every burden alone.
