Jane Misimbi Alugaya

In the heart of Alkareem slums in Kakamega, lives 73 year old Jane Misimbi ALugaya, a woman whose life has been marked by profound stress and suffering, yet illuminated by an incredible spirit of resilience.

Jane's sorrows began with the unimaginable loss of two of her children: one tragically passed away, while the other vanished under mysterious circumstances. The subsequent death of her husband left her utterly alone, thrusting her into the harsh reality of fending for herself. With no other options, she took on grueling manual labor to survive. As old age inevitably set in, so did debilitating illness. Arthritis crippled her feet, making it impossible for them to bear her weight, effectively ending her ability to work and leaving her vulnerable.

Today, Jane finds solace and support living with her sister's child, who assists her daily. A beacon of hope arrived when Mama Ibado Charity visited her homestead, offering a lifeline she desperately needed.
She was enrolled in the seniors’ food and health programs, initiatives that have breathed new life into her existence. "The food keeps me going," Jane shares, her voice filled with gratitude. "In my old age, I couldn't fend for myself and used to borrow from neighbors, but now Mama Ibado sustains me."

The health program has been equally transformative. With age, her hearing and eyesight had significantly deteriorated. However, after attending the clinics provided by Mama Ibado, she feels her senses have been remarkably restored.
