Japheth Mwanzi Mugilwa

At 79 years old, Japheth Mwanzi lives a quiet life in Amalemba, Kakamega, a place he has called home since 1965. His story, however, is one of endurance and resilience, shaped by decades of hard labor and hardship.

Born in 1945, Mwanzi faced challenges early in life. His education ended at Class Four, cut short by poverty and a father who, despite his best efforts, couldn’t afford to keep him in school. With limited education and few opportunities, Mwanzi relocated to Amalemb, where he secured employment as a casual laborer with the local municipality. The job offered him a livelihood and the ability to provide for his growing family. He continued in that role until his retirement.

Retirement, however, marked the beginning of an even more difficult phase. Without a pension or reliable income, Mwanzi found himself struggling to meet basic needs. The burden of providing for his family became overwhelming, and he began to experience severe stress, bordering on depression. The sudden shift from employment to financial insecurity left him vulnerable and unsure of where to turn.

It was during this period of desperation that he found a lifeline in Mama Ibado Charity. The support he received from the charity proved to be transformative. Regular food supplies, including rice, flour, cooking oil, and other household items, eased the financial pressure on his family.

The assistance brought a sense of relief and renewed strength. For Mwanzi, the food packages are more than sustenance; they symbolize dignity, care, and the reassurance that he was not forgotten. The support extended not only to him but also to his children, helping to stabilize his household.
