Hawa Maiza

Hawa Maiza was born in Uganda in 1955 as one of seven siblings, all of whom passed away alongside her mother during her early childhood, leaving her to grow up without parental guidance.

She began working for others at a very tender age just to secure daily survival, eventually learning vegetable and sugarcane trading from an employer before moving across the border to Kenya.

Formal education was completely unattainable because there was no one to pay school fees or support her, forcing her to abandon any chance of schooling and face an independent reality.

After settling in Kenya, she married and welcomed children, but her husband eventually abandoned her, leaving her to raise the family entirely on her own through odd jobs like weeding farms and selling mandazi.

She initially lived in Shikhambi, where she endured a relentless cycle of hardship, often sleeping on an empty stomach while laboring to raise her children.

Her adult children continue to struggle with unstable employment, relying on menial tasks such as pushing handcarts or casual washing to scrape together meager meals.

Her hardship compounded when a severe road accident involving a tractor left her with metal plates in her jaw and leg, resulting in chronic body pain, dizziness, and low blood count.

Her grandchildren are currently struggling to secure an education, with the family uncertain of how they will raise the required fees and books for secondary school.

While still living in Shikhambi, Hawa was selflessly caring for an abandoned elderly neighbor when Mama Ibado visited the home, recognized her compassionate dedication, and enrolled her into the senior support program.

She now receives monthly food packages containing rice, sugar, milk, ugali flour, porridge flour, salt, cooking oil, and tea leaves that provide her with essential daily nourishment. In addition to the vital nutritional support.

Hawa urgently needs continued help because advanced age, chronic post-accident pain, and severe financial instability leave her unable to support her grandchildren's education and basic survival needs on her own.
