Martin Zakayo Shilako
Martin Zakayo Shilako was born on January 1, 1949, in the village of Matende. He was raised in a large household of seven children, consisting of four girls and three boys.
He began his education at Matende Primary School, where he remained until reaching standard four. In 1962, he sat for the KAPE examinations with hopes of progressing to the intermediate level. Unfortunately, his parents, who were humble farmers, passed away and left him without the financial means to pay for Class 5.
Following the end of his schooling, Martin remained in the village taking on any available menial tasks to survive. He eventually moved to Nairobi, where he secured employment working for Indian entrepreneurs to earn a living.
