MUNYANYA SULEMAN SAIDI

Suleiman Said Mnyanya was born on July 30, 1945, in Marrum, Lurambi, Kakamega County. One of three children, Suleiman's early education centered around religious studies at a Madrasa under Mama Ali Murjai. Formal schooling was not a priority for his parents, who believed Islamic teachings were sufficient, even though they could afford a secular education.

This conviction shaped the course of Suleiman's life. Instead of pursuing formal education, Suleiman started working as a craftsman, specializing in repairing stoves and Optimus lamps. This skill became his primary source of income, and he continues to practice it even today.

In 1965, Suleiman married, and together with his wife, he has raised nine children—four sons and five daughters. He proudly shares that all his children attended school and Madrasa. While some of his children now live in Nairobi, two remain nearby and have built their own homes, maintaining close family ties. Many of his children work as Madrasa teachers.

Despite his efforts, providing for a large family has always been a challenge. Securing enough food was a constant worry, particularly as his earnings from repairing stoves were often meager. The struggles he faced in providing for his family highlight the difficulties many face in their community.

A significant turning point came when Suleiman learned about Mama Ibado Charity (MIC). Hearing announcements that the organization was assisting seniors over 70 years old, he went to Amalemba and was registered, receiving a membership card with the number 042.

Now, Suleiman receives a valuable package each month, which includes four bags of ugali flour, 2 kilograms of sugar, 10 packets of milk, and 2 kilograms of rice. This assistance significantly eases the burden of providing for himself.

"These foods that I have received have helped me a lot. If it hasn't helped another, that's their story. But it has helped me a lot from when I started receiving it until now."

He knows the support has been of great help, so he offers a special thank you prayer to Mama Ibado:

"My help is to pray for her. I pray that God increases her and increases her more. And may He continue to help others, with me among them. More and more."

Although Suleiman is now receiving much-needed food assistance, he still faces many challenges. Continuing support from the Mama Ibado Charity is crucial to ensure his well-being and provide him with a sense of security in his later years.
