Nambale Susan Nafula

Nambale Susan Nafula was born in 1950 in Ingotse as the fifth child in a large family of nine children, all of whom have since passed away, leaving her as the sole surviving member.

She began her education at a special school for the visually impaired, starting in Likoni in Mombasa before moving to Thika in Nairobi, where she progressed from nursery classes onward and performed well in her studies.

While trying to find her way home to Kakamega one day in Nairobi town, she approached a stranger and asked to be guided to the Nyayo bus station, but the individual took advantage of her blindness, assaulted and raped her, which resulted in an unwanted pregnancy.

When her pregnancy became visible, the school expelled her, and she was later taken to Kisumu where she eventually gave birth, only for her newborn child to be taken away from her.

With no education and nowhere to turn, she returned to her home area in Kakamega, completely losing her sight and facing a lonely existence without any work or anyone to support her.

She struggled just to find basic food, often enduring days on an empty stomach while watching all her family members pass away around her.

Her health deteriorated as she battled hypertension, failing eyesight, and profound mental stress, forcing her to rely occasionally on old school friends or walk great distances just to avoid starvation.

Later on, after suffering a severe fall near a local chemist where she collapsed, kind community members intervened and connected her with the Mama Ibado Charity senior feeding program.

Following a home visit and registration, she began receiving generous food packages containing maize flour, sugar, cooking oil, rice, salt, and tea leaves.

"Since joining this program, my life has shifted away from the constant fear of starvation, and I no longer sleep on an empty stomach."

Apart from the vital food rations, she also benefits greatly from healthcare support, visiting the clinic every Thursday for check-ups and receiving necessary medicine for her diabetes and high blood pressure.

Even with this life-saving assistance, she still lacks a proper home of her own, has no money or job, and desperately needs continued donor support to survive.
