NYAMWEYA ASISA LEA

Nyamweya Asisa Lea was born on January 1, 1959, in Amalemba, Kakamega County. She was one of six children and the firstborn in her family.

Unfortunately, Nyamweya's early life was marked by hardship. Her parents divorced when she was quite young, and the family lacked the financial stability to provide her with schooling. As a result, she had to stay home to help.

Instead of attending school, Nyamweya began working as a nanny, caring for other people's children to earn a small income. This work involved long hours and little pay, but it was a way to contribute to her family's survival.

Later in life, Nyamweya married and had two children. After they were born, however, the couple separated, and she moved back to her matrimonial home in Amalemba. Though she loves her children, she had to work hard to take care of them. She once again found work as a nanny, dedicating her life to serving other people’s needs. After so many years of working as a maid, Nyamweya relocated to Kefinco to try other businesses.

Now, Nyamweya lives in Kefinco, Kakamega, with her husband, a man who works hard pulling a handcart to earn a living. Her children live in Amalemba, not too far away. To supplement their income, Nyamweya makes and sells samosas in the bustling Jua Kali market of Kefinco estate. On a good day, she earns about Ksh. 300 to 400 (approximately $2.50-$3.50 USD), which helps them cover basic expenses.

Nyamweya learned about Mama Ibado through her son, who lives in Amalemba. He noticed other people receiving food from the organization and inquired about the program. Realizing that his mother could benefit, he encouraged her to register.

Following her son's advice, Nyamweya registered with Mama Ibado's program and now receives crucial assistance, including flour, rice, sugar, tea leaves, and cooking oil. This support has made a significant difference in her life.

Nyamweya explains that before receiving assistance from Mama Ibado, she often went hungry and sometimes had to go to bed on an empty stomach. Now, with the food she receives, she no longer faces that uncertainty and can sleep soundly knowing there will be food on the table. She is deeply grateful for the relief and support.

Although Nyamweya is immensely thankful for the support she receives from Mama Ibado, she still faces daily challenges and needs additional assistance to meet her basic needs and ensure her overall well-being. Every contribution can help her and her husband lead a more stable and secure life.
