OMUSE RITA AWINJA

Omuse Rita Awinja was born in 1952 in Shirere, Kakamega County. Growing up in Bukhulunya, she was one of twelve children. Sadly, she is the only one left alive today. Because her father didn't have much money, Rita never had the chance to go to school. Instead, she stayed home and helped her mother with the daily chores.

Later in life, Rita married and moved to Teso in Busia County, where she had six children. Unfortunately, she faced a great hardship when her husband passed away, leaving her to care for herself. Unable to manage on her own, she returned to her home area. Over the years, she has lost touch with her six children, who are now living on their own.

Rita worked hard to support herself, taking on various jobs like brewing and selling local alcohol. This was a tough way to make a living, often leading to problems with the police and even a two-year prison sentence.

On 2018-06-04, things started to look up for Rita when she heard about Mama Ibado's program through a neighbor. With the help of the village elder, Liguru, she was directed to Mama Ibado’s Office at Amalemba, where she was enrolled in the program.

Since then, she has been receiving food assistance, including maize flour, rice, cooking oil, and porridge flour.

"I give thanks to God for guiding me to this program. Now, I am doing well. I am grateful to Mama Ibado for reducing my burdens," Rita says.

Joining the program has made a big difference in her life. Knowing she has a regular source of food means she doesn't have to worry as much about where her next meal will come from. This allows her to focus on other things that are important to her.
