Rebecca Kanyore’s life was once defined by self-reliance and resilience. As a small business owner, she built her livelihood from the ground up, supporting herself through honest work and years of commitment to her craft. But in a single, devastating moment, everything she had worked for was lost when a fire consumed her entire business.
The fire not only destroyed her source of income, it came at a time when she had just received payment for a client's order. Determined to honor her word, Rebecca used the last of her savings to compensate the client. In doing so, she was left with nothing—no business, no savings, and no clear path forward. Shortly after, Rebecca received a life-altering diagnosis: eye cancer. The disease progressed quickly, and doctors warned her never to go more than two months without treatment. Yet without an income, consistent access to medication became impossible. She sold her remaining property and personal belongings in a desperate effort to keep up with her medical costs. But even that was not enough.
As her condition worsened, Rebecca’s eyesight deteriorated significantly. Eventually, she became partially blind. The consequences were severe; she suffered multiple accidents, resulting in broken legs and hands. She now relies on crutches for mobility; her independence has drastically diminished.
At the peak of her crisis, Rebecca was left without food, without financial support, and without the physical ability to work again. To make matters more difficult, she is the sole caregiver of her young grandson, whose mother passed away and whose father lives with mental health challenges. Despite her circumstances, Rebecca remained determined to care for him but the weight of it all was unbearable.
In a moment of need, she turned to Mama Ibado Charity. She visited the organization’s offices and explained her situation in full: her illness, her disability, her financial hardship, and the poor condition of the home she lived in. After careful assessment, Rebecca was registered as a beneficiary under the Mama Ibado Charity Elderly Feeding Program.
The support she received became nothing short of lifesaving. With no income, limited mobility, and ongoing health challenges, the monthly food packages provided by the charity became her only dependable source of sustenance. The food not only supported her—it also ensured that her grandson would not go to bed hungry.
Through the support of Mama Ibado Charity, she is no longer navigating her challenges alone. She has regained stability, dignity, and assurance that someone cares.
