Salome Tsisika Lihanda

Salome Tsisika Lihanda was born in the year 1945 as the seventh child in a large family where daily life was governed by shared resources.

She attended school up to the eighth grade of that era and performed well enough to secure employment as a teacher, helping establish Kakamega Township Primary.

After leaving school, she engaged in farming, manual household tasks, and retail trading at the Kakamega Retail Market while supporting her family.

She married her husband, who worked as a caterer until retiring in 1988, and together they raised ten children amidst demanding daily routines.

Life grew severely difficult after her husband passed away, causing her business to collapse and leaving her without steady support as her children faced unemployment or marriage obligations.

Without a stable provider, securing basic meals became a daily struggle, and the family frequently slept on empty stomachs during the harshest months.

Her health deteriorated after her husband's death, bringing high blood pressure, heart illness, and severe arthritis that restricted her movement.

A local neighbor connected the family to Mama Ibado Charity after representatives assessed her living conditions and enrolled her into the seniors program.

She now receives regular food provisions, including sugar, milk, cooking oil, maize flour, porridge flour, and salt, bringing much-needed relief to her daily life.

"Now we no longer sleep hungry, and I have less stress about where to get food," she notes, reflecting on the positive change brought by the charity.

Salome still needs help because her arthritis confines her entirely to the home, and she urgently requires a wheelchair to regain her mobility.
