When you meet Tare Kilo, her gentle smile hides years of hardship. She was born in Timau, Meru County, far from the streets of Isiolo where she lives today. Life brought her here hoping for opportunity, but instead she found herself battling challenges she never imagined.

Tare struggles with her eyesight, and the condition slowly took away her ability to work or support herself. Without family around and no stable income, survival became a daily fight. She didn’t even own a home. She stayed in a rented house, and only the kindness of her landlord kept her from ending up on the streets. Month after month, he allowed her to remain even when she couldn’t afford the rent.

Her lowest moments were the days she had absolutely nothing to eat. On those days, it was her neighbors who kept her going. They would share whatever little they had; a small portion of flour, a cup of porridge, a warm meal. Their kindness held her together, but Tare knew she needed more than occasional help to keep living with dignity.

One day, those same neighbors encouraged her to visit the Mama Ibado Charity office and ask if she could be considered for support. With her last bit of strength and a prayer in her heart, she went. Tare was accepted as a beneficiary of Mama Ibado Charity. For the first time in a long time, she felt relief. She began receiving monthly food essentials including wheat flour, maize flour, rice, sugar, porridge flour, cooking oil, tea leaves, and other necessities that brought stability back into her life. Even though she has not been a beneficiary for long, the change has been immediate and profound.

Now, she wakes up knowing she will eat. She has strength. She has peace. Her neighbors no longer have to shoulder her burden, and the worry that once consumed her has lifted. Her prayer is simple but powerful. She hopes the kindness she has received continues to reach more seniors who, like her, just need someone to care.
