Adam, a resident of Majengo, has spent a lifetime fighting against poverty, loss, and health struggles. Born third in a family of nine children, he grew up knowing hardship from an early age. With his parents’ meager earnings barely meeting their basic needs, Adam was forced to miss out on education. Instead, he took on odd jobs to help support his younger siblings, stepping into the role of a provider long before he was ready. At just 17 years old, Adam started his own family, and over time, he was blessed with seven children. However, due to social challenges, his marriage did not endure, leaving him as the sole caregiver for his children. Despite this unexpected responsibility, he remained determined to provide for them, taking up construction jobs to meet their daily needs.
For years, Adam worked tirelessly, spending long hours at construction sites. When there was no work, he roamed markets and villages collecting scrap metals, selling them to scrap dealers just to earn a little extra money. His income was never enough, and as a result, his children were unable to continue their education beyond primary school.
As Adam grew older, his strength began to fade. Then, tragedy struck. While working at a construction site, he suffered a severe accident, leaving him with a dislocated pelvis, chronic back pain, and mobility challenges. With no financial resources for medical care, and with all his children unemployed, his condition worsened over time.
Unable to access proper treatment, his injuries became permanent, and he developed aggressive diabetes and hypertension. His health continued to deteriorate, and with no alternative source of income, he found himself trapped in extreme poverty.
Despite everything, Adam refused to give up. Determined to survive, he began collecting, washing, and reselling plastic bottles, hoping to earn just enough to put food on the table.
Recognizing his dire condition, the leadership of the local mosque presented Adam’s case to Mama Ibado Charity (MIC). Given the gravity of his situation, he was enrolled in the seniors' feeding program on January 2, 2023. Since then, his life has changed significantly.
The monthly food support has improved his health, eased his financial struggles, and given him peace of mind. In addition, he is now a beneficiary of MIC’s healthcare program, which covers his health insurance and connects him to formal medical facilities where his chronic conditions are being addressed.
Thanks to the nutritional and healthcare support he receives, Adam now lives a better and happier life, no longer having to struggle alone.
